The sun was just rising in the sky as Pride pushed through the dense undergrowth of the forest. His keen hearing caught on everything. The sound of birdsong, and other small animals starting their day. The forest was quiet, and even seemed eerie. But it didn't scare him. This was where he was born, this was his home. But it wouldn't be for long. For some reason, the shipment of food from the city to his tribe hadn't come for weeks. Even some of his family had gone missing or even worse. Dead.
There had been rumors of some sort of animal attack, killing people. But Pride knew it was something else. He had seen them. They looked like humans until you got close. They were monsters. Suddenly he heard rustling behind him, and he froze. His jade colored eyes scanning his surroundings. He cursed, grabbing his handmade spear from his back. He turned around slowly, and his eyes met something wrong. Something that shouldn't exist.
It was ugly. It had the body structure of a human, or what was left of it. Grey rotting skin, and yellow broken teeth. It growled, sounding more like an animal.
"Come and get me!" He yelled, raising his weapon as he braced himself. The creature growled again, lunging at him. In one swift movement Pride stepped to the side and let the monster slip past him. Taking this chance he rose his spear and brought it down hard on it's head. A terrible cracking noise echoed through the forest and the creature fell limp onto the forest floor.
Pride let out a sigh of relief and rested against the cool bark of a nearby tree. But suddenly he noticed movement, and to his surprise the creature began to rise again. "Oh, shit..."
